Targeted positioning to help prevent and reduce flat head syndrome in infants.
The Adjustable Lateral Positioning Pillow is designed to support positional therapy for infants from birth to approximately 4 months, helping prevent and manage flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly and brachycephaly).
When a flat spot develops, the most effective approach is to remove constant pressure from the affected area. This pillow gently positions your baby in a semi-lateral 45° position, encouraging the head to rest to the chosen side and reducing pressure on flattened zones.
What it helps with
-
Plagiocephaly — flattening on one side of the back of the head
-
Brachycephaly — flattening across the entire back of the head
-
Supports early positional treatment, when recovery is fastest
How it works
The pillow is made of two connected foam triangles that cradle your baby’s body:
-
The larger triangle supports the baby’s back
-
The smaller triangle supports the lower arm
-
Together, they position the body and head laterally at 45°, on the side you choose
By positioning the body, the head naturally follows—helping to relieve pressure from the flattened area.
How to use
-
In cases of unilateral flattening, position your baby on the side that avoids pressure on the affected area
-
In cases of overall posterior flattening, alternate sides:
-
Left and right sides on alternating days, or
-
After every other feeding
-
-
Begin use during the day, under adult supervision
-
Daytime naps can be done entirely on the pillow
-
In more significant cases, nighttime use may be considered only with guidance from your pediatrician
Important guidance
-
Early intervention is key — the earlier positional therapy begins, the better and faster the results
-
After 5 months, cranial ossification increases and correction becomes more difficult
-
The pillow should be discontinued around 4.5 months, when babies typically begin attempting to roll onto their stomachs
-
For very young infants who may not stay positioned, an adaptable version (Delta™) is available to better fit the baby’s size and build
